Nice article. Underscores how much waste there really is in current Merkan society. Lots of room to downsize without really losing anything of value.......<NG>

"Tourist destination cities like Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco have been able to rip off tourists for decades during the global boom..."

This guy seems to have a real affinity for cosmopolitan cities, espepecially San Francisco. Even singles it out for special distinction from CA ...

"...(insert place--California, New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, etc. etc.)"

Whatever pal. I grew up in the Midwest. Cheap or not, places like Louisville don't offer as much quality of life-wise. I've spent significant time in many parts of the US and many countries outside of this one. Stack it all up and San Francisco offers a package that's pretty attractive if you want to step out and take advantage of it. If you're the kind of person who stays home and watches the PGA or Netflix or a steakhouse is the limit of interesting dining or the History Channel is all you need for culture or a January workout is the Stairmaster in a gym...have at it. Louisville or Detroit will always be hard pressed to satisfy some people and San Francisco or NYC will not do it for others, ergo they both will continue as-is.

What a negative Ned.
