The republicans in the senate look pretty stupid now...they've managed to lose control of the situation, since this loan is not legislated at all and the new administration can modify it without their approval.

It's OK... results don't really matter to them as long as they make their ideological point. Although they would have loved to spank the unions regardless of what it would do to the country.

Actually, they did what they needed to do, which was to protect the people's money from the UAW. If Bush blew it, they can't do anything about it.

I would not give them a red cent until UAW was on its knees begging for mercy. This is Bush kicking it down the road.

They were so worried about looking bad in front of their constituents, they allowed Bush to do an end run and made him look good for the first time in his tenure as president.
