LOL! The envelope system is the way I started when I got my first real job at 16 while still in HS.....

The ledger book is MUCH easier....and not at all complicated. I paid a bookeeper when I started adding employees...it in the long run was Much cheaper to do that (she was an accountant, worked for the IRS, as did my CPA)....then I was pretty sure we would be doing things the right way.

Know what you mean about loaning back, but once I really decided to not do that unless the world fell apart, interestingly enough, things started to work in the forward direction. I had "un-grinched" myself, and had much more fun in doing the business and talking to the business community!
