I was a Angie's List member for about 2 years before finally decided it's a not worth it. The contractors I chose consistently got numerous good reviews but at the end, they were no different than any others.

These days, for minor problems, I will learn to fix it myself. At least I will take time to learn the instructions and follow each step faithfully.

Very true. The best tradesmen I've known have all come by word of mouth referral, not a slick yellow page or media ad.

Luckily due to the housing collapse, they're much more available now.
