you'd think they'd be able to have coached the "ums" out of him by now. When he is not giving a prepared speech, Obama is not smooth. You have no idea how difficult it is to get rid of all the 'ums'. I took a speech giving class a couple of years ago and we had someone keeping a record of how many 'ums' we said during a particular speech. I think the best of us was able to keep it down to 2 or 3 'ums' in a 10-15 minute speech by the end of the class. It was a very frustrating exercise.
