I'm thinking you're right.

In fairness, I *HAVE* heard my son complain about the military wanting to restrict the use of the Internet -- they don't want them discussing specifics of their missions (for obvious reasons), and when there is a casualty they don't want them sending information back home before the next of kin are notified (again, for obvious reasons) - but he has always closed his complaints with "I can kind of see their point".

But at no time has there been any discussion about what he can say to whom as far as politics is concerned. And during the election season, he said they DID discuss it. Almost everyone was supporting McCain, other than [primarily] race-based support of Obama.
