If you have a hangup with the word "balance" used in reference to the current time, I suggest that instead you focus your attention on rates (the derivatives of CO2, temp, change extra) and compare that to your historical "never in balance" view of the world.

When scientist say something is in balance from our POV, timescale is the main factor. Its not that it does not change, or indeed might show a constant trend, its just that the historical changes are slow compared to the "out of balance" aspect being discussed. Quite a simple concept, yet some people just can't see past the words. Thats what is freaking astonishing about the CO2 graph. Our century of mighty effort has popped that sucker up in what looks like a vertical line when plotted on a historical time scale. Us humans have mother nature beat by orders of magnitude in how we flipped that baby. Yet you and old Jurassic Park himself seem to think we can't have an effect. Go figure...
