"Did they successfully divert from the reason why Joe the Plumber became famous? Yep." Huh? The reason he was famous was because McCain used him in the debate. Since when is it the job of the media to only print what the politicians say? The diversion occurred because Joe's true story was very different from the one that was peddled. That always attracts attention. Sadly. "Did they fulfill all the requirements for an ad hominem attack? Yep." An ad hom. attack is where you attack the person and not the message. McCain tried to make Joe the message. So... "Did they succeed in changing the context of the whole debate? In the words of Sarah Palin, "You betcha!"" That is the sort of thing that happens when you make someone a centerpiece without any vetting at all. Same thing happened with Palin. "Anyone remember Obama's response to Joe the Plumber?" Yes. Your point? "By the way, I'm glad you advocate said hit jobs (or otherwise look the other way when it happens to conservatives)." I never said I advocated them. I don't. I don't like it when the media or anyone else just makes up stories. Like the swiftboaters did. Or the ones in S. Carolina who made up the story about McCain's illegitimate black baby. Look, I can understand your pain at the way the McCain campaign went off the rails. It was painful to watch. But blaming the media for his train wreck is a bit much.
