If I'm responsible and drive a Honda Civic why should I pay the same gas tax as someone driving an Escalade?

Because, as this thread pointed out a month or two ago, there are many cases where the Escalade is the more appropriate and responsible vehicle to drive.

I read it here, it must be true!

You wouldn't be. They'd consume more and pay more.

Your civic must have twin turbos and huge sticky tires that you fail to properly inflate.

Otherwise you'd be getting much better mileage and paying much less in gas taxes - very single year, not just the year of purchase.

If we had a reasonable gas tax in this country, you'd be seeing even greater rewards for using fuel sensibly.
