The money this country will save from being off fossil fuels will far outweigh the initial investments required.

And exactly how do you quantify that? Energy is Energy.. What matters is how that energy is converted into productive work.

I can't save money if I'm required to spend more $$$$ on an alternative fuel solution than I would on a fossil fuel solution.

And RIGHT NOW, and especially with oil prices where they currently are, alternative energy in most of its forms is cost prohibitive.

Example: Go out and actually try to buy a PHEV plug-in for the same price as a fossil fueled car. The Chevy Volt is going to sell for $40K plus and it's not even sure that it will break even at that price due to the cost of the batteries.

But, on the other hand, Honda's GX Natural Gas fueled vehicle was making great strides towards acceptance until they limited their sales in the US, presumably because it was eating into the sales of their gasoline cars.

Or maybe not??.. :

But I think the GX is a better interim solution than all electric, or even PHEV (though I still favor moving towards PHEV as the next step). NG is available, there is an existing infrastructure, and it's domestically available ($$$$ staying here).

Oh.. and btw, we'd be in the middle east REGARDLESS of whether we were energy independent, if only because our allies still depend upon fossil fuels. But the primary reason we're there is because there's an insidious death cult of religious fanatics seeking to attack us by any means possible.

but in Silicon Valley, we make a habit of making people like you obsolete.

More power to you.. I hope you do.. but until you do, don't try and saddle this economy by forcing us to adopt an energy infrastructure that is not cost competitive. You're better to give us a technology that permits us maximum flexibility between energy sources.
