a) I've often wondered why the mainstream media and most people on this thread talk about the corruption in Chicago as if it's a given, like the sun rising in the east every morning. Is it really that bad? Why doesn't anyone seem outraged?

Chicago is an example of 'machine' politics. Most major US cities experienced machine politics prior to WW II when they ended. However, the Daly machine in Chicago never died......as machine politics go its fairly benevolent. Typically, there is a lot of nepotism and payment under the table.

b) Seems like liberals can get away with anything these days. Time to welcome our new socialist overlords ...

LOL. What goes on in Chicago pales in comparison to what the GOP has become over the past ten years.

It's "the city that works" as they used to say.

Because it isn't THAT bad... it just makes for a good narrative.

Huh? Blagojevich is going to get both impeached by the Illinois legislature and indicted by the federal government in the next couple of months. No one, as far as I can tell, is standing behind him, but there's a legal process to get rid of him. What do you want, an on-the-spot beheaading?

You're really fishing here...
