As I said before, I'm pretty sure that a flexible hose would get pinched by the excess pressure. There would be no suction left at the bottom of the pipe to move water. But I'm no engineer.

I used an airlift when moonlighting as a diver many years ago. Airlifts are well-known to divers. They're useful and effective in shallow water.
