Wow, I thought the Sydney Award was one of those made up awards Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert are always giving to themselves, one seriously and one for a joke.

Ron Paul was treated as a joke by his fellow candidates. Unfortunately, some of the goofy stuff he says (he's a supporter of the Confederacy) detracts from the intelligent stuff he says. His economic solutions may be right in the long haul, but he is too draconian. For example, you can not have the Fed and the IRS disappear tomorrow with nothing to take their place. But they probably should be put on the road to disappearance, especially the Fed, as it is currently constituted.

But even Paul misses the key to all of our crises, unrestrained world population growth. There are simply too many Catholics, Muslims, Mormons and Fundamentalist Christians who think that birth control=abortion. And it doesn't do the world much good if China takes steps, some of them ugly, to prevent its own population growth, when nobody else does the same.
