I am not going to fight with you today Sarman. Here are some thoughts.

1. Like during the cold war one side may have wrongly viewed the other as paper tiger. Israel has been so mis-ruled by a corrupt PM and back in 2006, a union leader joke as Secy of Defense. Livni and Barak are demonstrating that toughness and competence are now running israel.
2. Barak especially has proved himself in the past to be a fair man who searched hard for a peace partner whe he was PM.
3. Pals may want to deal with this team before they have to face BIBI.
4. Bibi is a dangerous man and i am not sure he is totally separated from the old likud greater israel fantasy.
5. Please answer the question what does hamas really want? Conventional wisdom is that they want this to be a PR victory and a recruitment tool for further rejectionsists and suicide bombers. Folks as different as chris parsons and steve harris seem to agree on this. I, like you, want to believe that folks on both sides are better than their behaviour would indicate. Can you make a case for Hamas goals? Will they ever recognize pre-67 bordered israel????
