There always seems to be some demand for highly experienced and specialized IT types. I keep in touch with the people I used to work with, and they have told me if I ever want to work remotely and get back into debugging complex systems software problems that they would be glad to get me working again.

As someone else mentioned on the thread earlier, IBM East Fishkill does quite a bit of work for other major firms, like Sony with the guts of the Playstation. It's one of the most advanced facilities around, so they can keep pace with the Intels of the world in terms of semis...
