Any consumer space business eventually becomes a penny pinching process and IBM was accustomed to 20% profits at the time. AAPL's profit margin today is about twice what IBM's is. AAPL has done a fantastic job of maintaining a closed environment while [finally] using its perceived technology advantage combined with some true innovation to actually turn its brand around. Now, they've got people paying $2,000 for notebook computers when everyone else is selling them for $499.
