It comes down to education. Unfortunately the American public for the most part is scientifically illiterate. This has grave consequences for our (and the worlds) future.

Nukes work. Except for a few, big problems. When I was in engineering school I thought they would solve our energy problems but over the many years since I've discovered that not to be really true. There have been some good studies and papers that have come out recently that "quantify" the problem. If your interested I would be happy to post them. In the end I'm interested in the long term real costs and impact to our world.

Today the Puget Sound area is under a pollution alert. It wasn't caused by electric cars or electricity being used for heating here. That really sums up one of our big problems on the planet.
