RE: Q3 Estimates / JBuilders Sales.

My estimates for Q3 are $45M in sales and $3M or 0.06 EPS. I'll be perfectly happy with a 0.03 quarterly increase in EPS as Borland continues their turnaround. I think it's a reasonable, attainable target. If they do that, 1998 will be 0.09 + 0.12 + 0.15 + 0.18 = 0.54, which (at the current price) gives a P/E of about 20. Plenty of room for upward movement...

I think JBuilder sales will build much slower than most people here are expecting. I was in CompUSA today (bought a Zip Plus--more about that on the IOM thread later!). Borland had a very nice section of the programming shelf. About 35% was Borland, 40% was database and other stuff, and about 25% was other language products (mostly Microsoft). Delphi and C++Builder took most of the Borland area. JBuilder was there, but just a few. I still don't think that Java is as widespread (yet) as many would hope.

JBuilder is a non-event, the last thing we need is another language, especially one without pointers, you have to have pointers. Sun is working with several of the consumer electronics heavyweights to put this language into a wide variety of devices, but it's unclear why you would put a language on, say, one of those digital walkie-talkies, and it's even less clear how JBuilder can be used on a device like that. It sounds like Sun is confused with all of the services it has in the works for Java, you would think it was an application layer for an operating system or an operating system proper. Of course, we all know it's just a language.
