You're so right...a long time ago when I was flying, I read "Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest Gann, who was an AA pilot. I had to read it of course, but he goes through a lot of things that happened to him as a pilot, but every pilot I talked to about the book said they knew the man and all of those things didn't happen to him. When he heard of anything major that happened to an airplane if the pilot lived, he interviewed him and wrote it all down incorporating it in his book. He is also the man who wrote "The High and the Mighty"...but that was even farther back. amazon.com As a stewardess for four years, I did have quite a few emergency landings but none that we had to evacuate the plane..oh I take that back, we did have one aborted take off we had to evacuate.
