A good store that sells almost exclusively cheap store brands is Aldi. They opened one here around 9 months back. I was in there today and it was quite a bit busier than I've ever seen it so far. I think their 32 use detergent is under $3.

Another good way to cut costs is to subscribe to The Grocery Game website. It makes dealing with coupons much less time consuming and you can quickly and easily find the best deals each week to save anywhere from 50 to 100% on brand names.

aj

Thanks.

Gonna hard code 4 bucks in my head as a benchmark.

Just as important - duh - I goto Target for my sons
electronic thingies ... I just never looked around.

The paper towel price you quoted sounds * really good *
so I am gonna kick the tires on that.

regards
John

Re: I don't consider Purex a brand name.

We've done some modelling development work with P&G in the past, and it gave me a little insight into their products. The soap business is a lot more technical than one might expect. Purex is basically "old" Tide. In other words, when they come up with a new tech for Tide (adding enzymes, for example), they add it to Tide and the old Tide becomes the new Purex. Purex to Tide is like Celeron to Pentium or Athlon to Duron.

It's a brand name, but...

Quick correction - it's not Purex, it's Cheer. Purex is from someone else. But the general idea is the same. Purex is a competitor to Tide.
