15 different definitions.

Also that's just from a dictionary entry. If you include the whole of the political and philosophical ideas associated with that term you have a much broader more complex thing. Well not really one thing, you have multiple ideas some of which directly contradict each other. (For example liberal can mean supporting of maximum economic freedom with minimal intervention in the economy from government, and it can also mean supporting high taxes and government spending along with extensive regulation.)

Conservative is also complex and lacking one single simple definition that covers the whole use of the word.

Libertarian is perhaps better defined, but it still covers people with very different ideas.

Oy gevalt. I should not allow myself to get provoked. But I will answer based upon my perceived confusion: defs 2 through 5 vs. gun control. To me, a hallmark of the liberals has always been a contempt for article two of the Bill of Rights. Jefferson was pretty darn clear why the citizen should be allowed unrestricted ownership of the tools of combat: in a REAL state by, of and for the people, it is the citizen who retains, and will not tolerate an abridgement of, the ultimate right to revolution.

If we ever feel that the state has become corrupt and betrayed us, we have the right to take up arms against it and set things (bad word) RIGHT. THAT imho is the meat of article 2, porplarly called the Second Amendment.

That is my big beef with devout liberals in the post-Kennedy era. They're SELECTIVE about civil rights. I'm pro-gun, pro-choice and haven't a homophobic bone inmy body.

As regards civil rights, I am liberal to the core.
Ol'JS is yer Gun Totin' Liberal. But my disgust with such political tools as Handgun Control Inc. has forced me to take a stand. As of two weeks ago, I am the NRA. Life member.

But as chooseanother said, let's al relax and tell a joke.

Q: What's the first rule of a gunfight?
A: Have a gun.

cheers y'all, js
