"Deregulation" and "laissez faire" have been the mantra since the Reagan days. It has had an unstinted run all along, including the Clinton years, and had been elevated to the status of gospel truth.

The results are out there now. Even a monastery needs an abbot. But our corporations said they were better than celibates. And our governments listened. The result is the total mess that we are in now.

This news item should tell you how wonderful the regulatory mechanism has been in recent decades :

"The SEC has launched its own internal investigation into how Madoff's alleged actions were able to continue unchecked for at least 10 years."

That would sound like "complete lack of regulation" to most people except crooks and right-wing apologists.

Dems are certainly proving that Reps have no monopoly on corruption. Time for a 3rd party.
