There is no need for us to have bases in South Korea, Japan, Germany, and everywhere else. Those countries are stable Democracies with powerful militaries,

NOW they don't.. but we've had troops there since the end of WWII when BOTH of those countries were former aggressive empire builders. The continuing presence of both US military and economic influence in those countries GUARANTEED that they would no longer engage in global aggression.

It's quite possible that the change in US policy towards a strong military presence in the Mid-East that has occurred since 1991 might eventually alter the political outcome in the region and provide moderates and progressives the umbrella of support they require to obtain political power.

We should pull out of far more and move to a reliance on a highly mobile and specialize armed forces,

That's an IDIOTIC idea. Just how do you think you can logistically support those "highly mobile armed forces" if you don't have a base to deploy and support them from?

We have pre-positioned depots full of equipment around the world, specifically for the purpose of supporting rapid response units, so all they have to do is fly personnel to a trouble spot, access their pre-positioned equipment, and then conduct operations. And that requires bases!!

Leave the military strategy to those who have at least the faintest clue about what's required to project military power around the globe to protect the interests of the US and its Allies.
