<don't have a dog in the fight>

Most people are ignorant - it is an unfortunate aspect of the human condition. It is not elitist but factually correct to say that half of humanity is below average in intelligence. That is what average means: half above, half below. So, a ruling majority (2/3) are probably fairly deemed "not very smart" in relative terms. That too is true. So we all have a dog in.

< the notion that God created man full-blown can't yet be fully discounted>

This in itself is not a scientific statement. It may be true, but it isn't scientific. Theories aren't fully discounted unless their is a proponderence of data rejecting their positive existence. We don't reject negatives as providing evidence (for no invisible Pink Space Bunnies, for instance). For me to say disprove iPSB's is not scientific. It can't be proved or disproved because it is not falsifiable.

There is no presumptive evidence of any kind of instantaneous creation now, looking at all the rain forests or meadows, so scientists don't propose this mechanism as existing in the past. We don't say there are magical or mystical elements at play because no one has demonstrated them now in a falsifiable way. It is not generally understood that falsifiability means that a positive assertion can be proved false, not that something is false and can be proven false. I can't prove that it isn't all an illusion by Satan.

There are certain knowledge barriers that prevent the lower half and even some of the upper half of society from participating in meaning (read:intelligent) scientific discussion. Science is not determined by majority vote but experiment or observation with prediction. As long as scientists are charged with teaching it - they should keep the principles of falsifiability in plain view.
