It was odd to me, too.

Apparently there exists a fairly significant group of scientists who have published in regular scientific journals what they consider evidence of intelligent design at work in the universe. The context though was not what is normally thought of as religious. And the bits of some of their work that I looked at had no place at the high school level, only college and above. Much too complex.

As I read about them, I was reminded how much of science is in fact theoretical. Often a hypothesis is offered with only the slimmest of supporting data, but another scientist will add to it with his findings and so on.
