Did mom and pop drug stores really pay their workers better than Walgreens? Give them better benefits?
----------------------------
Generally no. Except to the extent the workers where the owners, and the store was sufficiently profitable to support the owners in a decent fashion.

Why do you say "Generally no."? Do you have data?

I remember the "ownership society", when almost all businesses were owned by locals. It may be just a perception, but as that system changed, the gap between rich and poor seemed to increase. Yes, the top tier made a lot more money, but the middle tier and the lower tier made a lot less.

It would seem to me that a classic libertarian would be more in favor of the small businessman than the giant corporation. Closer to the customer, less beaurucratic, more the ideal of the 'capitalist individual hero'. But you are the expert on libertarians.
