you have a special responsibility to consider the accuracy of what you say and the consequences of inflammatory and erroneous statements.

I have no doubt at all that the addressees of the letter know exactly how accurate and inflammatory their remarks were. They have made a lot of money pandering to the RW base doing just that.

An unfortunately long history on the part of all three of simply making things up. We are in the midst of a further right wing temper tantrum which we can only hope will be seen for such.

Are they being honest about it?

What I mean is that I think a lot of it is still plain ole racism, xenophobia, and homophobia except that now most people know that those views are not acceptable. I guess we are making progress. Those views are now being driven underground but remain popular.
