It would interesting to see some actual field research on illegal alien hiring in various places at various times, to pin down the issue whether they displaced willing American workers or filled jobs no one wanted; and the impact on wages. I suspect that designing an accurate real-world study would be extremely difficult given all the variables involved. I'd love to see some that go beyond an op-ed piece.

So people go at it with deductive arguments, make assumptions and point fingers of blame accordingly. This is one where I would want to see objective facts in a broad framework - not just anecdotes - to draw a firm conclusion.

It would be ironic if there were white legal workers turning down "menial" jobs in good times then finding those jobs no longer exist as an alternative once economic circumstances make them more appealing.

I don't want illegal aliens taking jobs away from poor Americans. I think people who want to have houses built or repaired should hire American workers. But then I'm a lefty- what do I know? Heck, I'm just a lefty buy American type. Why I actually look at my purchases and try to buy American. My dinner ware is Fiesta. My kids' clothes are usually American made. When I see American products, I buy them- whether it's food or other goods.
