>> That's you and me.

Speak for yourself. I believe in a government that provides for what no person can provide on his own -- national defense, roads, bridges, airports, etc. If people can provide their own health care they damned well ought to do it.

This bill is wasteful. It is utterly stupid to spend billions on libraries in this day and age. And on broadband -- hell, wireless broadband is proliferating and will be available nearly everywhere before they can build it out. And why is that a legitimate function of government anyway?

You people are just so weak you can't take care of yourselves. Weak people who need someone to take care of them.

That's you, not me.

>> There's no such thing as free

There is if you have your hand out and come to expect the government to take care of you. Government will provide you with health care, food stamps, wages, or if no wages, unemployment compensation, retirement benefits, you name it.

The problem is that someone has to pay for all this shit.

I am interested in your take in yesterdays iraqi election---not whether it was worth the cost or whether the surge is responsible,,,just how view where the US is in iraq now.
My view is that regardless of how we got there and irrespective of cost, the iraqi election may turn out to be a great thing for the middle east in general and iraq in particular. Its good to know that the lives lost might not have died in vain.
