GM Jan sales plunge 49 percent; output cut

By Kevin Krolicki

DETROIT, Feb 3 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N) reported a 49 percent drop in January sales on Tuesday, a steeper-than-expected plunge that came as overall U.S. auto sales tumbled to their lowest level since 1982.

GM cut its first-quarter production plan and rolled out a new round of discounting in response to the sales decline, which was the largest sales drop for any of the major automakers.

Shares of GM dropped more than 4 percent.

GM, which has been struggling to restructure under the terms of a $13.4 billion federal bailout, said it estimated that overall U.S. auto sales for the month of January fell to near 9.8 million units on an annualized basis.

That industrywide sales decline allowed China to surpass the United States as the world's largest auto market for the first time on a monthly basis in January, GM said.

These guys are pathetic. Look at the posts between me, RW, Ted and Al today. Everything is a pimple or their collective arse and obviously their arses are where their brains would typically be. So for them when asked about stalin, he was a pimple on their ass too. Hitler they sort of make a retroactive excuse for going into WW2.
On FP, i think obama would find the three muskateers laughable.

It's reasonable to assume that the strong reaction by Bush to 9/11 forced the terrorists to go after "softer" targets like Great Britian and Spain. But it's not reasonable to assume that the terrorists will strike again just because Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are now in charge. They might, or they might fear how pissed off the American public would get once again.

This is certainly true. AQ -- bin Laden, et.al., would not want to have a pissed off American public, would they?

And Lord only knows what a Pissed Off Obama might do compared with a pissed off GWB.

that terrorism is just a "pimple on our ass"? After all, more people die due to drunk drivers than to terrorism here in the homeland, no?

If you don't keep the pimple cleaned it will get infected and kill you just as dead as standing in front of a speeding train.
