"It (govt employment) is better than providing them with unemployment benefits, "free" health care, and food stamps, though, which is what we're seeing in this bill. Put them to work; at least the taxpayers get something out of it." Both are imperfect. I would love to see a payroll tax holiday for employees and employers to incent hiring and spending. I suspect if govt employement was the alternative to the safety net measure you detest, you would be against that too as in "Let them eat cake." Now you do know that a depression is an unacceptable solution for this? So lets first define the pork and remove it and then make the hard choices, not just avoid them and pontificate about socialism.
