One can, of course, argue that food stamps and unemployment insurance are stimulative. They certainly are.

You say this as if food stamps are a good thing. They are socialistic. Safety nets are needed for any society, but they should be used as a last resort. Try to put the people to work first. It's better for them and its better for society. Build bridges, tunnels, fast rail, electronic medical records, broadband, etc. Then, .......THEN if we still have people needing help, then provide for them. John, there's no "vision" in food stamps and the like, it's just giving up on America.

You are arguing for a far left liberal position and you have every right to do that. But most of America is in the middle - the CENTER. They do not want a great big huge welfare state and they don't want a bloated government.

Obama needs to ask for some sacrifice. This will not be easy and a lot of America might be a little hungry before it's over. By looks of the people at WalMart, they could go a few days on a little less food however.
