John, there's no "vision" in food stamps and the like, it's just giving up on America.

And for the working poor, those with jobs that don't pay enough to cover the rent, commuting and food, you would prefer that they
and children starve?

Steve, I'm baffled by your latest post.

Food stamps are socialistic!! Not even close. They are, thank heavens, safety net provisions for people who would otherwise starve. They don't convert the economy into a command economy; they make the society just a wee bit more humane. And they are only a smidging of what needs to be done.

John, there's no "vision" in food stamps and the like, it's just giving up on America.

You are losing me. Completely. They are both stimulative--government money that is immediately spent, keeping some jobs from disappearing; and they are assistance for those hurt the worst by these hard times. As for whether they are a "vision," they are part of a critical social vision which is the safety net.

You are arguing for a far left liberal position and you have every right to do that.

Do you think most Americans want people starving. I don't think so. You know who argued most vigorously for food stamps in the Senate? Bob Dole. You would hardly accuse Dole of being a "far left liberal." He's just got a side of him that cares for folk who need help.

Obama needs to ask for some sacrifice. This will not be easy and a lot of America might be a little hungry before it's over. By looks of the people at WalMart, they could go a few days on a little less food however.

I don't think you really meant that, Steve. You've not seemed that heartless in your previous posts.
