Yep, these numbers are stunning: "The Elkhart-Goshen region's unemployment rate hit 15.3 percent in December, up from 4.7 percent the year before. That was the nation's biggest annual increase for a metropolitan area, according to the Labor Department." indystar.com Obama is visiting there and somewhere in Florida next week to put a big spotlight on two really big problem areas. The speed of this economic decline shows just how big a bubble we were sitting on. We have been confusing corporate feudalism with capitalism. Capitalism would not pay the head of GM, the loser of some $75B one red cent and would boot him out on his head. Corporate feudalism pays as much as the Board thinks is possible without causing a shareholder or public riot. We need to get back to capitalism where risk and reward, competence and compensation go hand in hand again.
