Somehow I wish President Obama could study how LBJ gently twisted arms and struck deals.

The same thing happened with Reagan and Tip O'Neill, not political allies but they found ways to work together when they could.

I'm fascinated by how both conservative Republicans and the Democratic leadership in Congress are mad at the moderate bloc that struck the compromise that Obama wants to pass. If this goes through, the whole dynamic for how Congress functions could shift to a new paradigm, one that undercuts those who are made at the moderates now.

I'd love to see that continue. Reid, DeMint, Pelosi, all the rest, shoved to the sidelines with their petty bickering.

You have to remember that Johnson shoveled money out the door in a shotgun approach with no thought as to its effects--which turned out to be massive inflation in the 70's--there's a lesson there somewhere.

PS. Hope you own some gold.
