All what that article said is that there is slower demand for Intel flash (and Atmel too). Dataquest survey still shows higher demand for flash worldwide. Remember there are many types of flash, and they are not compatible with each other. Compact Flash from Sandisk has become the standard (80% of the market). Intel and Atmel's flash memories are used mostly for embedded systems. Embedded systems used mostly EEPROM, which is not programmable, because there is no need to change the software. EEPROM is also cheaper than flash.

Look at all these Japanese companies who licence flash technology from Sandisk. They are not dumb.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but are Flash memory and Flash Storage devices 2 different items ? SNDK main item is non Volatile Flash storage as opposed to Volatile Flash memory....The flash memory market (ex IDTI) has been weak for some time now. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't comparing Flash memory to Flash storage like comparing DRAMS to Hard drives ?
