We have to fund the program as it stands... increased demand because of decreased income should be met under the existing program through requests for budget increase by normal channels, if it's needed.

The program never had time limits in my day, unless that's changed, and there is no way you could take them away or deny the eligible. We have to meet that need, but why would you defined that as stimulus, which implies something MORE added to the program. And that's where I get confused-- and concerned.

One article I read made it sound as if they were contemplating increasing the benefit to get more money into the system. That makes no sense to me: the allotment is based on studies and statistics on what a family needs, and on a sliding scale based on income and expenses. Just increasing it arbitrarily seems bizarre and ill-conceived.

If that's what they are doing. I guess I could try to research.. yawn.

f the number of people needing it increases or the length of time it's needed increases, then not increasing it enough to match the increased need then you re effectively taking away their food stamps.

And so when do we ever have to tighten our belts just a little? Never? It is this thinking IMO that is so dangerous. If you want to increase welfare, fine, but figure out a way to pay for it. The federal government is little different from others who spend beyond their means. There is eventually a day of reckoning. We call it bankruptcy if it is a person or a business.....
