a. you were hoover in 29-32 and
b. you were fdr in 33 plus

my opinion fwiw for current situation. Demand down to levels that forces corps into no-spending mode. If corps dont spend they fire workers making problem worse. Housing triggered this and now compounds as does banking. Tax relief needed at bottom of the scale and i would include unemployment insurance being made non taxable in that mix. Raising end rate now means very little. Spending the only way. Imperfect for sure. Doing nothing would be a disaster. Both of us want a good outcome. one of us is terribly wrong.
