Hi Dave, "...hyping the stock up on SoftDVD." That may be your perception, but the reality is they are just announcing design wins. I think we both know of companies that do hype their stock (we have posted on their threads), but I am a little surprised to hear you say this about Zoran. Are you really that worried about SoftDVD? Good Luck.

I agree, the upgrade market will be larger. I never said SoftDVD was the best way to go, it is simply another marketing tool available to OEM's. And no, I have not seen SoftDVD in action. Do you think everyone on this thread has seen Cube DVD in action?

I invested in DVD based on research, marketing trends, consumer behavior, etc. People don't necessarily buy the best, they buy what they are sold. If Intel says SoftDVD is the way to go, people will buy. How many Americans even know who Cube is? When settop boxes start really selling (1998), I will probably invest in Cube. But today, the PC market is the first to really target DVD and I chose Zoran to invest (in the low teens) because they were a "Pure" DVD play with an alternative product to offer before their chip was ready.
Basically, I felt they were covering both bases, which IMO, is very prudent when selling into a new market.

Why are you so concerned that there are two alternatives to delivering DVD to the consumer? With your backround, you should understand more than anyone that you never underestimate advaces in technology. Today Intel has 300mhz, what about tomorrow, 500mhz? Plus, don't you think the price of those computers running 300mhz is going to drop, considerably over the next 18-24 months? All that does is open the door to more SoftDVD products, not less. Plus, what about hybrid solutions, HW and SW? Don't they have a future?

I respect your opinion and expertice, but do you really need to bounce around the differnet threads and give "quip" responses to any DVD alternatives that don't match the technology of Cube? We all know you are bright, but sometimes your posts and statements are very condesending, which are not necessary.

Best regards and I think we are both right.....John
