My grandmother kept a shotgun with rock salt in the first chamber and shot in the second chamber. Not sawed off, though, although it maybe wasn't illegal to have sawed off back then, not that I really know.

First shot ran the varmints off. She never had to shoot the second time, but once, when some idiots were driving around her property (way back in the woods) yelling and whooping in the dark, with their lights off. They left.

She tried to shoot over their heads, but it was dark.

I wish I knew what happened to that gun. Maybe got lost in Hurricane Camille, her whole house was smashed to matchsticks.

Edit: I remember a movie where the second chamber was filled with silver dimes. Now that hurt.
