It's impressive. I've seen the mountain several times while on flights. Another impressive sight is gliding past Mt. Rainier on the approach into SeaTac.

I've seen that view several times, and it is dramatic.

St. Helens used to be a perfect cone.

I lived about 50 miles away when she blew, which we were able to see on the way home from church. We suffered no ill effects, but did get a dusting of ash a couple times.

My parents' home in Montana had a lot of ash all over their roof, which washed into the gutters. I helped dig it out.
