Hey Ted, I'd actually approve of a high-speed rail between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. That is, after we build one between Seattle and San Diego.

I actually support the high-speed rail, as well. It isn't near-term stimulative, however. And apparently, there is quite a bit more to it.

I actually saw a map today of all the high-speed rail that is being considered in the bill, and some of it (like Little Rock to Dallas) is insane in that there would be inadequate ridership to make it worthwhile.

But Vegas to LA? No brainer. Houston-Dallas? No brainer (but curiously absent, even though Dallas-Austin-San Antonio is there). Houston was an endpoint for an East-West Gulf Coast line thru NOLA and on to Mobile, but nothing North-South.

Both should be done. All of our major urban centers should be linked by high speed rail. I'd be up for paying a trillion or more to have it done. A grid system, just like the interstates.

LA-Vegas will be built well before SD-Seattle. It annoys the hell out of me that we are so far behind other first world countries in this mode of transportation.
