You and I are both in areas with strong average employment compared to many others, but it's encouraging that some areas aren't retail wastelands yet. I have only seen a few newly empty storefronts in the strip malls around here; I expect to see more in coming months. When I was growing up in Dallas, economic slowdowns would take out entire shopping centers, leaving them ghost towns for a year or two until someone stepped in to revive them.
