Oh my God, I'm so sorry, TH.

Yes, I can understand the need for a firearm where you live.

Please tell me that whoever shot that intruder was not punished.

most of the people i know, shoot guns as sport....we used to go skeet shooting until that facility closed down years ago, fortunately a new one just opened last year...

and UNFORTUNATELY i know a number of contractors who have to at times work in very dicey neighborhoods where crime is rampant and they have carried personal handguns for protection for years....much before the current economic meltdown....i only know of one who actually had to use it...so i tend to think of the current state of affairs this way....in the past, i would have never considered the necessity of carrying a gun for personal protection because the areas i lived and worked were thriving and crime statistics were quite low.....otoh, if we get to a civil unrest stage (like we are seeing the beginnings of in europe) very few areas would be immune....then there is also the potential threat of an obama administration taxing ammunition driving the cost sky high...i think that explains a lot of the 'stocking up' behavior you are seeing with people who enjoy sport shooting and hunting...if you think the cost of your ammo is going to triple or quadruple relatively soon, you buy it now while it's still relatively cheap
