It seems that many of the naysayers who are worried about why a major would rush to fund a JV are forgetting about geopolitical forces at work here. An earlier URL link post on this board made reference to a major [ I think AMOCO] CEO's statement that they were somewhat dismayed at China's preemptive strike to take the UZEN field[ discovered in 1967] on "noncommercial" terms. Read " We don't like the fact that the ante has been changed"! They don't relish having to pay up; however the other National oil Cos. could force this as a requisite to even be dealt a hand at the KAZ table. Some of these Nationals are aware of the Billions made by ARAMCO partners in the middle east , and I'm sure the original partners Texaco,Exxon, etc. have not forgotten either.

We are talking about nation strength in the 21st century and not just about what have been commercial terms for fickle companies in the past 15 or so years. The cost of production here will be much lower than any offshore concession elsewhere. And the oil will be close to the dynamic economies of the East in the 21st century. Enjoy the great KAZ oil boom of the 90's.

Regards,

Anyer

Cathi, you sure are quick and I like your style. You have been saying alot of what I have been thinking, but I have not been able put them down in words.

Another stock that I am watching carefully is Valence Technology.

Appreciatively, David M

With better technology, I concur with that. 3-D siesmic has been an absolute boon to the industry. The general theories and techniques are vastly different between 1970 and 1997, without a doubt. However, that is a discovered and proven field. It still not a given, as the Pennzoil's 3-D siesmic play in the Caspian has proved so far.
