From passing the spending obmnibus bill, for one. Reid came up with 59 votes, which wasn't enough to get cloture, which means they couldn't override the GOP filibuster to bring it to vote.

Brumar, go to Wikipedia and read up on filibusters. It's important to understand how it works, because in this country Senate minorities have real power to block legislation with filibusters. It's a very powerful tool.
