"Right. It steadily declined to 14.18%."

Spiked to 18.18% and then dropped to 9.66% when the war started.

"There is no evidence that a meaningful economic recovery can be "created" through government hiring. None at all. "

Actually, there is. But, if you can prove it, then start your own school of economics. Because no school holds that as a concept. Even the most laissez-faire schools hold that government isn't as efficient as the market place. Not that it can't do it at all.

"There is no ideology involved."

There absolutely is.

For example, this statement.

"But it is utterly stupid to pay them to watch Oprah."

This is a mind boggling stupid statement. Nobody will stay on unemployment at some small fraction of what they can make if employed. No one.

Ok, you might.

"It is a matter of using your common sense to look at the events of the FDR era and understand that FDR's actions did not lead to an end to the Great Depression."

Moving the goal posts. You claimed his actions made it worse and prolonged it. Things had improved under FDR, and not just because of make work. Industrial production had started to exceed pre-Crash highs. It wouldn't have taken much more of that until it was over.

"It isn't about ideology. It is about understanding the issues, which you obviously don't."

I do understand the issues. You try to twist them to fit your ideology. I am not walking down that road.
