What democrats?

The 51% in the poll mentioned at the following link.

And its not "wanted Bush to fail at the war", but rather an unspecific "wanted Bush to fail", just as Rush's comments where (to my knowledge at least) unspecific. Its not like I often listen to Rush, or have really dug in to this specific controversy deeply, but I'm sure if he specifically said he wanted the economy to collapse, or something along those lines, that the issue would be even bigger and his quotes would be all over the media.

Some Republicans might read "wanting us to lose in Iraq" into "wanting Bush to fail". Some Democrats might read "wanting us to go in to a depression", in to "wanting Obama to fail". I think neither is sufficiently justified. IMO most people who "wanted Bush to fail", and most people who "want Obama to fail", want their political fortunes and power to fail, not "want the country to fall apart so it hurts the sitting president".
