Or the local village mob: <If I expected a dark interregnum, I wouldn't be very comfortable having my gold stored in a HK safety deposit box, with a PLA contingent encamped just around the corner. >

Do you think a bunch of villagers with pitchforks would notice somebody walking out of the safe-deposit room clutching something? TJ has used the word "redistribution" as well as "confiscation" too often to be unaware that a collection of gold is only as good as the ability to hang onto it.

TJ has his stash in scuba diving escape locations so that as he swims for it under water, he can pick up the various stashes on his way to freedom.

I doubt that the PLA could conveniently lay their hands on much of it. He grew up with the untender mercies of the PLA stealing things.

I expect the PLA might be guarding the deposit boxes. Considering that the Chinese government is encouraging the personal ownership of gold, and the US government's track record on gold is mixed...

So it might be okay, for a while...

<<If I expected a dark interregnum>>

... and I do.

<<I wouldn't be very comfortable having my gold stored in a HK safety deposit box, with a PLA contingent encamped just around the corner>>

... there is a fundamental misunderstanding by either you or i regarding the nature of what is enveloping us planetwide, what ails the usa, what is happening in china.

as regard to hong kong, there may be a basic lack of knowledge by you on the subject, leading to a total out-of-context take on hong kong, and the absolute unique nature/role of the cantonese in chinese history.

besides, long before the garrison makes a twitch, and they are less then 2 kilometers from where i am typing from, the gold would be long gone and platinum long disguised. you worry too much.

in the mean time, the pla contingent around the bay on the peninsula provides us with weekend playground, where kids from all nations play, not bothered with retina scans, untroubled with finger printing, and also not fussed with random shootings, no taxation without representation, etc etc, iow, living free, sovereign, and in peace.

yes?
