It's not that much worse than it was under Bush. It just doesn't hide the extent of it anymore. And the deficit as a percentage of GDP isn't nearly as bad as it's been in the past. You may not believe in Keynesian principles, but this is all OK under them. In fact, we might need to spend more right now.
